"We used Ngọc Luật to handle the documentation for purchasing an apartment in Ba Đình. The process involved more layers than I had anticipated — the Land Registry check alone took time to interpret. The team was clear about what each document meant and what we needed to do at each stage. I did not feel rushed to sign anything I had not understood."

"I needed to register a trademark for our textile brand before expanding into new provinces. Ngọc Luật conducted the prior art search thoroughly and found a potentially conflicting registration we had not been aware of. They adjusted our application approach accordingly. The process took about three months on our side — they handled the NOIP follow-up from there."

"As a foreign-invested company, we have legal questions that arise regularly — employment contracts, supplier agreements, regulatory changes. The retainer arrangement with Ngọc Luật means we have someone who knows our business to call. Response times have been reliable. The one area I would note is that some requests take a day or two to get a full reply, though this has not caused us any practical problems."

"I inherited a property that had some ambiguity in the original transfer documentation. Ngọc Luật reviewed the historical records carefully and prepared a clear written analysis of what the documents established and where the uncertainty lay. They did not oversimplify — but they also made sure I understood what the situation actually was before any decisions were made."

"We registered an industrial design with Ngọc Luật's support. What I appreciated most was that they explained the difference between what design registration covers and what it does not — which helped us decide whether additional trademark protection was also needed. The advice was honest rather than simply encouraging us to engage for more services."

"We retained Ngọc Luật at the start of our second year of operations. Having consistent legal advice has changed how we approach contracts — we review agreements more carefully before signing, and we understand better what we are agreeing to. The annual compliance check identified two areas where our employment documentation needed updating. Worth the cost, clearly."

Case Studies

Representative Engagement Patterns

The following outlines how certain types of matter have typically developed through our practice. Details have been generalised.

Case Study 01 · Property Documentation

Challenge

A family inherited an apartment in Hanoi where the original land use right certificate listed a deceased family member. The transfer process required navigating both inheritance law and Land Registry procedures simultaneously — a combination that had caused a previous legal professional to advise simply waiting.

Approach

We mapped the required steps clearly: an inheritance declaration, a court confirmation, and a subsequent certificate amendment. Each step was completed in sequence, with the family informed at each stage. The process took six weeks in total — longer than a straightforward transfer, but substantially shorter than the indefinite wait they had been anticipating.

Outcome

Certificate amended and transfer completed. The family received a complete written record of every step taken, including copies of all submitted and received documents. A follow-up question about the property six months later was answered at no additional charge.

Case Study 02 · IP Registration

Challenge

A software company seeking to register its brand in Vietnam discovered during our preliminary search that a similar mark had been registered four years earlier in a different industry class. They needed to assess whether their application could proceed and in which classes.

Approach

We analysed the existing registration's scope and assessed the likelihood of conflict in the classes the client was seeking. Our assessment concluded that registration was viable in their target classes with minor application adjustments. We prepared and submitted accordingly, with a clear advisory note explaining the boundary between protected and unprotected use.

Outcome

Application accepted by NOIP without substantive objection. The client proceeded to registration in the following review cycle. They now understand the scope of their registered rights and what conduct by third parties would constitute infringement.

Case Study 03 · Business Retainer

Challenge

A foreign-invested trading company was expanding its Vietnamese workforce and needed to ensure its employment contracts, internal policies, and leave structures were aligned with current Vietnamese labour law — an area that had seen amendments in the prior 18 months.

Approach

Under the retainer arrangement, we conducted a compliance review of all employment documentation against current statutory requirements. Seven issues were identified, ranging from minor formatting requirements to substantive provisions that required amendment. Each was addressed with a redlined version of the original document and an explanation of why the change was required.

Outcome

All employment documentation brought into alignment with current law. The company adopted a practice of sharing new contract templates with us for review before use — a simple step that has prevented further gaps from arising since. The retainer has now been renewed for a second year.
